DP World Southampton

DP World is a leading enabler of global trade and an integral part of the supply chain. We operate multiple yet related businesses – from marine and inland terminals, maritime services, logistics and ancillary services to technology-driven trade solutions.

We have 77 operating marine and inland terminals supported by over 50 related businesses in 40 countries across six continents with a significant presence in both high-growth and mature markets. We aim to be essential to the bright future of global trade, ensuring everything we do has a long-lasting positive impact on economies and society.

Our dedicated team of over 37,000 employees from 110 countries cultivates long-standing relationships with governments, shipping lines, importers and exporters, communities, and many other important constituents of the global supply chain, to add value and provide quality services today and tomorrow.

Container handling is the company’s core business.

At D.P World Southampton, apprentices form a mainstream of our engineering succession plan. We have a duty to business and to the local economy to provide opportunities for employment and people development.

Apprenticeships provide the perfect structure to nurture the skills, knowledge and attitudes required in a highly skilled professional environment. These attributes cannot be learnt overnight or solely in a classroom and we are proud of our four-year training programme which facilitates a journey through an approved engineering apprenticeship standard culminating in a Level 4 HNC and Maintenance Operations Engineering Technician recognition.

Whilst giving a person a great foundation in all things engineering, the beauty of this is one which enables the business to train specific skills relevant to our actual equipment – real ‘on the job’ exposure.

Many of our past apprentices have achieved promotion and are now in Supervisory and Management positions; a real success story / win-win for all concerned.

If you are thinking of becoming an apprentice or an employer thinking of setting up a programme, then don’t delay. Our results speak for themselves.
