We currently have a vacancy for a Machining Instructor
The Role
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Machining Instructor to deliver practical and theoretical training in manual and CNC milling and turning operations. This position plays a key role in shaping the next generation of engineers by providing high-quality instruction to apprentices and commercial learners.
Key Responsibilities
Deliver engaging and structured training in manual and CNC milling and turning
Support learners in developing core engineering skills in line with Apprenticeship Standards
Create lesson plans, training materials, and assessments aligned with curriculum requirements
Monitor learner progress and provide constructive feedback
Maintain and ensure safe use of all workshop equipment and machinery
Complete all teaching-related documentation accurately and in line with funding and quality assurance requirements
Support quality and compliance initiatives, including audits and inspections
Participate in mandatory training (e.g., safeguarding, equality and inclusion, PREVENT)
Engage in continuing professional development to maintain industry and educational competence
Attend organisational events, including open evenings, taster days, and award ceremonies
Promote and uphold SETA’s values, policies, and standards at all times
Candidate Requirements
Essential:
Recognised engineering apprenticeship or equivalent qualification
Significant industry experience in machining (including milling, turning, and CNC operations)
Relevant teaching/training qualification (e.g. PTLLS or equivalent) or willingness to work towards one
Strong understanding of health and safety requirements in a workshop setting
Proficient IT skills and ability to manage training records electronically
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team
Desirable:
Prior experience in a teaching or training environment
Familiarity with learning platforms such as Moodle
