OVERVIEW
This two-year part-time qualification has been designed to meet the minimum requirements of the development phase of many apprenticeship standards in engineering and is usually undertaken by apprentices studying a range of electrical, mechanical, welding, fabrication and plant & process control disciplines.
The course is also suitable as a stand-alone course for those looking to develop a career in engineering who have suitable GCSE’s and or relevant industrial background that relates to the programme structure.
Students looking to keep doors open for future study may consider progression to SETA’s Level 4 Higher National Certificate (HNC) in General Engineering.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
No prior knowledge, understanding, skills or qualifications are required for this qualification, however, in order to optimise success candidates will typically have four GCSEs at Grade C/4 or equivalent, including Mathematics, English and a Science.
Where this qualification is offered as part of an Apprenticeship, employers who recruit candidates without English or Maths at Grade C/4 or above must ensure that the candidate achieves these grades (or equivalent) before completing the apprenticeship.
COURSE DURATION
Two years on a part time basis, one day a week (0800 - 1615)
The course is delivered in face to face classes at our Southampton facility in Millbrook.
TOTAL QUALIFICATION TIME (TQT)
982 hours (TQT) including 720 Guided Learning Hours.
262 hours of independent study will be required as a minimum to successfully complete the course.

PROGRESSION
On successful completion of the BTEC Level 3 courses candidates may progress to a Level 4 HNC.
