OVERVIEW
This course deals with the safety aspects of working with abrasive wheels and conforms to the requirements of The Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 (PUWER) and HSG17. It allows staff to use abrasive wheels whilst in your employment.
COURSE AIM
To provide theoretical and practical knowledge to safely operate and maintain an Abrasive Wheel, grinding and/or cutting machine
COURSE CONTENT
- Identifies the hazards associated with abrasive wheels
- Understanding the duties of the Health & Safety At Work Act for employees and employers
- Recognises the key points of The Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations (PUWER) 2014 relating to safety in the use of abrasive wheels
- Understands the competency requirements for personnel who operate and mount abrasive wheels
- Understands criteria for selection of correct wheel composition for material to be worked on
- Recognises key compatibility points for the safe matching of wheels and machines
- Identifies the correct types and specifications of Personal Protective Equipment required when using abrasive wheels
- Demonstrates safe practice in the mounting of specified abrasive wheels
- Demonstrates ability to identify key defects in abrasive wheels
- Demonstrates safe procedure in the dressing of grinders wheels
- Understands safe methods of storing, transporting and handling abrasive wheels
