Apprenticeships - Mechanical Engineering

Mechanical fitters produce and fit parts of machinery and equipment, such as manufacturing machinery or aircraft parts. They will use hand-tools like pliers and files and electric tools like drills and grinding machines.

Maintenance engineers move around a factory repairing and maintaining mechanical equipment. They work out what is wrong if a machine breaks down and take action to fix it.

Toolmakers, make the special tools or equipment required to manufacture products, such as sink units or tiny plastic components. It is often very precise work.

Mechanical production engineers manufacture components, often to very precise tolerances
